Old slang for a punch or other blow.If you gave him a few shillings,the fighter John Smith,who went by the ring name of Buckhorse,would let you punch him on the side of the head as hard as you could.The wellknown boxer saw his name enter the language beginning in about l850-that is,if he saw anything but stars after a while.
